The growing complexity of electronic vehicle components increases the risk of malfunctions, which can be fatal in the worst case. Since 2011, the ISO 26262 standard has set out comprehensive requirements for the technical design and testing of safety-related systems. In practice, however, the standard often raises questions. This is why Ideas & Motion s.r.l., an Italian e-vehicle specialist, has teamed up with Virtual Vehicle Research GmbH as part of the EDIH Applied CPS.
Together, they analysed the company’s existing processes — from prototype development to testing and quality assurance — to determine their compliance with the standard. The results provide a valuable foundation for the further development and optimisation of existing processes in terms of functional safety. This ensures conformity with industry standards and improves the overall quality of the company’s internal software and system development.
Implementing the service as part of the EDIH Applied CPS project has shown that significant progress can often be achieved through minor adjustments. As a result, Ideas & Motion’s comprehensive ISO 26262 related software and hardware engineering services have been further enhanced to provide customers with best-in-class mobility solutions.
